The jejunal absorption of glucose from linked glucose oligomers including maltotriose
has been compared with that from free glucose and sucrose in normal subjects. Two
important points were made in this article:
- All glucose oligomers must first be hydrolyzed at the small intestinal brush border
to glucose before absorption can occur.
- In the clinical context, when the gut is intact, the faster absorption of linked
glucose olgomers is unlikely to be clinically significant.
