Antibiotics for Traveler's Diarrhea
Soon after the onst of Diarrhea begin an antibiotic:
- TMP/SMX 1 ds BID
- Trimethoprim 200 mg BID
- Doxycycline 100 mg BID
- Ciproflaxin 500 mg BID
- Norflaxin 400 mg BID
- Oflaxocin 300 mg BID
plus an antimotility agent
- Imodium 4 mg then 2 mg after each loose stool up to 16 mg/day
- Lomotil 2 tablets QID
Most symptoms resolve in 3 days and antibiotics can be stopped.
